    A high pressure ridge out west continues the warming trend on the West Coast this week. Temperatures in Southern California and the Desert regions will remain in the 70s to low 80s through the weekend. An approaching cold front will bring a chance of rain to Southern California with between 1-2 inches expected to the north over the weekend.

    A high pressure ridge building out west will bring a warming trend and strong winds to the West Coast this week. Temperatures in Southern California and the Desert regions will remain in the 70s warming into the 80s through the week, with gusty winds (25-45mph) as the ridge moves into place. Cold mornings are forecast for the desert regions with possible lettuce ice in the colder eastern valleys today into Wednesday morning.

    A series of cold fronts move into Central California with much needed showers and rain into the weekend. These systems will bring cooling temperatures (low 60s) and a chance of showers to Southern California. Temperatures in the California desert regions will cool to the high 60s to low 70s with gusty winds (20-35mph) as these system pass to the north. Cold mornings are forecast for the desert regions with possible lettuce ice in the colder eastern valleys today into Thursday morning.

    A series of cold troughs will bring much needed rain to Central California with cooling temperatures and strong gusty winds expected in the desert regions into next week. With the transition to the Southwestern Desert regions all but complete weather patterns continue to impact supplies. The same generally warm and humid fall weather pattern (which increased growth rates and lowered yields in the Salinas Valley) impacted these Desert area stands as well. Fields in this region are ahead of schedule and offering lower yields as growers attempt to meet demand.

Max temps today remain up to 10 degrees below normal, 66 to 71 degrees. Warmer temps Tue into Thu as high pressure rebuilds. Max temps warm to seasonal averages Wed/Thu, low to upper 70s. The will be light to moderate lettuce ice still possible Wed in eastern and southern Yuma and Coachella valley’s despite warming. Minor cooling Friday due to a passing trough well north of the region, 71 to 75 degrees.

    As we begin to ramp up production from the desert growing regions of California and Arizona overall growing conditions will continue to impact yields and quality for the near term at a minimum. Adverse growing conditions throughout the west this fall have lessened yields and quality as growers reach for product to meet demand. The generally warm and humid fall in Central California pushed crops weeks ahead of schedule as seeders fringe burn, mold and mildew lowered yields substantially in the fields.
