  • Alert: Romaine Lettuce Communication - January 5, 2018
Dear Valued Customers: As you may know, there has been an E. Coli outbreak, which some have associated with Romaine lettuce. We have been monitoring the situation closely for new developments. At this time the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) has not been able to identify any one food that caused this illness. No recall or warning has been issued by either the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the CDC. Furthermore, no public agency has contacted any Romaine lettuce grower, shipper or processor and requested that they either stop shipping or recall product already in the marketplace. Even if this outbreak is actually confirmed to be caused by Romaine lettuce, it is important to recognize that this is a highly perishable product with limited shelf life. Therefore, it is very unlikely that any affected product would still be in the distribution chain given that the last U.S. illness was reported on December 8th. Food safety is a top priority for Freedom Fresh and we continue to monitor this situation and work with our growers, shippers, processors and government agencies. Should anything change, please know that we will communicate it immediately, but once again there has been no official recall or warning related to Romaine lettuce. Sincerely, Freedom Fresh
